In Memory of Steph

Stephanie James

Sadly Steph, aged 43, lost her hard fought battle with cancer on 28th January 2017 at the Peter MacCallum Clinic in Melbourne. On behalf of the committee and all members of Young Ostomates United (YOU), our deepest sympathies are extended to all of Steph’s family, particularly to husband Dave, daughter Sarah and son Joshua.

Stephanie had her Ostomy surgery in December 2015 and even prior to surgery embraced the Ostomy movement and YOU. Carol Martin was Steph’s link person prior to and throughout her journey - surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotheraphy - and they became firm friends. Thank you Carol for giving so much of yourself to Steph, she really appreciated your friendship and our special thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of a friend.

The funeral was held on February 2nd at St Joseph’s in Port Melbourne and held a most poignant moment with both Sarah and Josh writing on their Mum’s coffin. Dave has all his family in New Zealand so a second funeral was held there on February 11th.

Young Ostomates United mourns the loss of a vibrant member who put up such a courageous struggle.

Rest in Peace Steph

Lilian Leonard - Founder of YOU Inc in 1989 and present Committee member.
